Kennel Assistants

Job Title: Kennel Attendant
Reports To: Kennel Attendant Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt


OVERVIEW:

The Kennel Attendant provides care and the basic needs of animals that are being groomed, boarded, or that are patients of the Veterinary Hospital including cleaning of cages, runs and ward areas, laundry, walking, and proper feeding, medicating and care of all hospitalized patients. The kennel attendants operate under the supervision of the Kennel Attendant Supervisor and Hospital Manager


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease, and discontent

  • Handle animals as required and restrain animals

  • Walk hospitalized and boarded dogs several times a day to provide exercise and time for elimination of bowel and bladder

  • Bathe, groom, and provide tender loving care to boarded and hospitalized animals

  • Provide care for animals' house/visiting the hospital. Report signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to veterinary technicians and/or veterinarians. Ensure that animals are clean and fresh smelling prior to discharge

  • Under the supervision of veterinarians or technicians assist with the administration of medications, post-operative care or preparation of samples for laboratory examination, collect specimens, clean instruments, fill prescriptions as authorized

  • Ensure that cages and animals are properly numbered and identified and that personal property (toys, blankets, leashes) are stored in the proper area and identified

  • Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages, and runs as often as is necessary to ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent. Perform general cleaning in other areas of the hospital to control the spread of the diseases. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls

  • Launder and dry towels and blankets

  • Patrol hospital grounds daily, picking up any trash and stool material

  • Empty trash

  • Groom animals utilizing techniques that vary depending on the type of hair, coat, breed, and owner instructions. Bathe and dry animals. As required, perform nail clippings

  • Record information such as feeding, schedules, appearance, the behavior of animals that are boarded, groomed, or hospitalized. Exhibit a technical knowledge of products and medications sold, including dietary products. Demonstrate the ability to explain and educate clients on products and answer their questions regarding products purchase/use. Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the DVMs, and the hospital philosophy

  • Perform other duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Apply knowledge and skills in controlling/handling individual animal temperament

  • Ability to gain animal confidence when restraining them to transport, grooming, and/or treatment

  • Knowledge of proper methods of animal restraint

  • Knowledge of grooming practices for a wide range of small animals

  • Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency

  • Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services. This includes client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction

  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments. Understand and carry out oral and written direction


EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, communicate, and listen, frequently working in a bent position.

  • Frequently use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms.

  • Use strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals.

Veterinary Assistants

Job Title: Veterinary Assistant
Reports To: Veterinary Assistant Supervisor / Hospital Manager
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt


OVERVIEW:

The Veterinary Assistant assists the veterinarians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures, and assists with surgical procedures at the Veterinary Hospital. The Veterinary Assistant operates under the supervision of the Veterinary Assistant Supervisor and/or Hospital Manager.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by the veterinarian

  • Prep and assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures

  • Triage patients, perform physical exams and gather brief medical histories

  • Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs

  • Operate and maintain hospital equipment, i.e., EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, syringe pump, anesthetic monitors, and machines

  • Anesthetize animals and monitor anesthesia under the direction and supervision of the veterinarian

  • Communicate with clients/owners about the status of patients, as directed by the veterinarian

  • Fill prescriptions/administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs

  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms (after each patient), reception areas, hospital grounds, and treatment areas, as needed

  • Clean cages, as needed

  • Do laundry

  • Communicate patient status with oncoming staff and veterinarians, and update records and financial information, as needed, in the computer

  • Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, and/or pain • Communicate and approach job duties in a mature manner

  • Foster teamwork approach and work well with all levels of hospital team members

  • Participate in all staff and technician/assistant mandatory staff meetings

  • Participate in the review process for other technical staff and doctors when requested

Licensed Veterinary Technicians

Job Title: Veterinary Technician
Reports To: Veterinary Technician Supervisor/Hospital Manager
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt


OVERVIEW:

The Veterinary Technician fully assists the DVMS, to help improve the quality of care given to the patients, and to aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work at the Veterinary Hospital.

The Veterinary Technician assists in multiple procedures providing care for animals including physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, immunizations, euthanasia as well as client education, marketing, and inventory maintenance. This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases; their symptoms means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations. This is an overview of the position and the job responsibilities listed do not encompass the entire position. The Veterinary Technician is under the direct supervision of the Veterinary Technician Supervisor, and Hospital Manager

Customer Care Representatives

Job Title: Client Care Representative
Reports To: Client Care Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt


OVERVIEW:

The Client Care Representative is often the first point of contact with clients, exception service skills are required. The Client Care Representative must be friendly, professional, courteous, always show urgency and appropriate concern


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Greet clients in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner

  • Answer multi-line phone system and directing the calls accordingly

  • Obtain medical and other information from referring vets

  • Schedule and confirm appointments

  • Check patients in the hospital according to schedule and prepare patient files

  • Notify appropriate departments that patients have arrived

  • Make sure the lobby and reception areas are organized and neat, including stocking and cleaning areas for clients

  • Obtain deposits and other payments from clients

  • Client admission and check out

  • Print and distribute daily schedules

  • Mail out prescriptions

Associate Veterinarians

Job Title: Associate Veterinarian

Spencer Springs Animal Hospital is looking to add a new associate veterinarian to our team! We have been serving west Las Vegas at our current location for 16 years. We are a small animal hospital. We have a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced group of LVTs, veterinary assistants, receptionists, kennel staff, and groomers who are committed to making a difference in the lives of our patients, communities, and the field of veterinary medicine. Our mission is to provide quality veterinary care that combines compassionate client service with exceptional medical expertise.


Our hospital is equipped with up-to-date diagnostic equipment, including in-house CBC/Chem, a digital radiography machine, a class IV laser, a dedicated dental suite with digital dental x-ray, and portable anesthetic monitoring equipment.


Along with general surgery and medical care, our hospital offers in-house grooming and boarding services. We would eventually like to expand and include physical therapy and acupuncture services given the space in the hospital. For the time being, we use an mobile veterinary sonographer to perform in-house scans


Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Completion of DVM degree

  • Nevada State License with a good standing

  • 2-3 years of experience is preferred but not required
